Hi folks,
I'm 58 and a happier man as a result of being introduced to the most fantastic music of Amos.
I wasn't afforded the opportunity of learning music formally but if I liked a song I would learn it by ear for the sake of passing it on. This is where Amos played an impotant role in my whole acceptance as a performer but more importantly, as a human.
During the early 70s I was listening to loads of music from Texas, slow country, driving boogie, classic blues ect.
Of all the chosen songs "Let Me Go Home Whiskey" had become a favorite. I'd learned it from a cover by Asleep at the Wheel, not a bad arrangement, good reproduction. This song remained a favorite and still applies today.
During the early 90s, I was forced to retire from live performance sadly. To save myself from going insane I began studying anthropology, this eventually led me to many camps in the outback with our Aboriginal First Nation hosts where late at night around our campfires the guitar would accompany the many beers with song. I played it down that I'd previusly worked as a professional musician, in time I played a tune or two. Alcohol has always been a challenge to my Indigenous bretheren so I chose to play "Let Me Go Home Whiskey". Man, I tell you they LOVED that song!
It was requested every night and preceded me from one camp to the next. Those folk permitted me access to anything I could request of them which truly helped my studies.
Yes folks, Amos Milburns' music has far reaching powers.
I'll never be able to tell him how important he has been to my life. Please pass on my "Blessings" to his family and friends. Please let them know that he'll always be admired and respected by many people here on the other side of the planet.
.........Peace,Love and Respect Always.....
